Peristomal irritant contact dermatitis is highly prevalent in ostomy patients, and is primarily driven by leakage of corrosive effluent which conventional appliances often fail to prevent, creating a cycle of skin damage and impaired quality of life. A modified insertable ostomy appliance was developed to achieve a physical seal within the stoma, directly addressing the root cause of effluent leakage.
