Institutional investor cliques and innovation

ABSTRACT The paper examines the unclear impact of widespread institutional investor cliques on corporate innovation. We find that, distinct from non-clique institutional investors that may facilitate technical innovation, institutional investor cliques suppress innovation and the suppressive effect of institutional investor cliques outweighs the promotive effect of non-clique institutional investors, thereby impeding macroeconomic growth.
