According to the geographical location, the whole province was divided into three regions: the north, the middle, and the south. Two cities from each region were selected, respectively, and patients clinically diagnosed with varicella from September to October 2019 were included in this study. Finally, the research sites were Xishan District and Wujin District in the south, Rugao City and Xinghua City in the middle, and Ganyu County and Siyang Country.

Our results show that overall PRP remained high for measles during 2009–2011. However, it has been declining since 2012. In order to confirm the reason for the decrease of PRP, we analyzed the percent of less than one-year-old participants among all participants in various years. As we knew, the first dose of measles vaccine was given about 8 months old. So the lower PRP will appear if more less than 12 months old children were enrolled.

Our analysis showed that distinct lineages within HN and F genes can be identified for MuVs of genotype F collected in mainland China. This is in contrast to what is observed with the SH gene (this report7,). Gouma et al. came to the same conclusion when analyzing the sequences of genotype G strains associated with outbreaks in the Netherlands and proposed to concatenate the F, SH, and HN genes into a single sequence to increase the resolution of the molecular information10.
