Precious metal free tunable manganese oxides for sustainable anion exchange membrane fuel cells
Abstract Eliminating platinum group metals from cathode catalysts in low-temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells is highly important for addressing the sustainability challenge fuel cell systems face. Here, we propose modifying the electronic structure of Li-intercalated layered Mn-oxide as a cathode catalyst to overcome the activity/stability tradeoff in anion exchange membrane fuel cells.
Mitigating polymer-induced self-inhibition with microenvironment-decoupled Sn(II) single-atom catalysts for pollutant polymerization
Abstract Selective oxidation-driven pollutant polymerization enables simultaneous contaminant removal and carbon recovery, yet current catalysts suffer from competitive adsorption between pollutants and oxidants, disrupting redox balance and causing premature termination. Herein, we present a microenvironment-decoupled strategy by anchoring atomically dispersed Sn on amino-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNT−NH2).
Insights into free radical and non-radical routes regulation for water cleanup - Nature Communications
Abstract In the field of wastewater treatment, the regulation of free radical and non-radical routes has been one of the major challenges. This study investigates the regulation of radical and non-radical oxidation pathways in the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation system by controlling the calcination temperature of carbon materials and constructing bimetallic single-atom catalysts (NC-FeMn(TA)).
Acidic oxygen reduction by single-atom Fe catalysts on curved supports - Nature
Abstract Developing highly active and durable electrocatalysts for cost-effective proton-exchange membrane fuel cells is challenging1,2,3. Fe/N–C catalysts are among the most promising alternatives to the platinum group metal catalysts, but their activity and durability still cannot meet the performance criteria due to the strong adsorption of oxygenated reaction intermediates and the demetallization of Fe species caused by the Fenton reaction4,5,6,7,8.

Manipulating C-C coupling pathway in electrochemical CO2 reduction for selective ethylene and ethanol production over single-atom alloy catalyst - Nature Communications
Abstract Manipulation C-C coupling pathway is of great importance for selective CO2 electroreduction but remain challenging. Herein, two model Cu-based catalysts, by modifying Cu nanowires with Ag nanoparticles (AgCu NW) and Ag single atoms (Ag1Cu NW), respectively, are rationally designed for exploring the C-C coupling mechanisms in electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR).

In-situ spectroscopic probe of the intrinsic structure feature of single-atom center in electrochemical CO/CO2 reduction to methanol - Nature Communications
Abstract While exploring the process of CO/CO2 electroreduction (COxRR) is of great significance to achieve carbon recycling, deciphering reaction mechanisms so as to further design catalytic systems able to overcome sluggish kinetics remains challenging. In this work, a model single-Co-atom catalyst with well-defined coordination structure is developed and employed as a platform to unravel the underlying reaction mechanism of COxRR.
Mechanistic Understanding and Design of Non-noble Metal-based Single-atom Catalysts Supported on Two-dimensional Materials for CO2 Electroreduction
Mechanistic Understanding and Design of Non-noble Metal-based Single-atom Catalysts Supported on Two-dimensional Materials for CO2 Electroreduction Single-atom catalysts (SACs) composing of low-cost, earth-abundant metals, with two-dimensional material supports have displayed great potential in a wide range of electrochemical reactions, including CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to convert CO2 to valuable chemical and fuels.
Microenvironment modulation of single-atom catalysts and their roles in electrochemical energy conversion
Abstract Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have become the most attractive frontier research field in heterogeneous catalysis. Since the atomically dispersed metal atoms are commonly stabilized by ionic/covalent interactions with neighboring atoms, the geometric and electronic structures of SACs depend greatly on their microenvironment, which, in turn, determine the performances in catalytic processes.
Boosting Fenton-Like Reactions via Single Atom Fe Catalysis
The maximization of the numbers of exposed active sites in supported metal catalysts is important to achieve high reaction activity. In this work, a simple strategy for anchoring single atom Fe on SBA-15 to expose utmost Fe active sites was proposed. Iron salts were introduced into the as-made SBA-15 containing the template and calcined for simultaneous decomposition of the iron precursor and the template, resulting in single atom Fe sites in the nanopores of SBA-15 catalysts (SAFe-SBA).

Single Cobalt Atoms Anchored on Porous N-Doped Graphene with Dual Reaction Sites for Efficient Fenton-like Catalysis
The Fenton-like process presents one of the most promising strategies to generate reactive oxygen-containing radicals to deal with the ever-growing environmental pollution. However, developing improved catalysts with adequate activity and stability is still a long-term goal for practical application.
Atomic-scale topochemical preparation of crystalline Fe3+-doped β-Ni(OH)2 for ultrahigh-rate oxygen evolution reaction
Development of high-efficient and affordable electrocatalysts for the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been considered as a great challenge to the practical applications for water splitting and in rechargeable metal-air batteries. Herein, we report active and robust OER catalysts of Fe3+-doped ?-Ni(OH)2 prepared via an atomic-scale topochemical transformation route.
Zinc-modulated Fe-Co Prussian blue analogues with well-controlled morphology for efficient cesium sorption
Prussian blue analogues (PBAs), with tunable compositions and morphologies, have demonstrated great potential in many applications. In this study, a series of KFe Zn [Co(CN) ] (Fe Zn -Co) PBAs with well-controlled compositions and morphologies have been successfully synthesized and newly applied as adsorbents for the removal of Cs ions. The Zn/Fe ratio was found having significant influence on the final morphology as well as to improve the cesium adsorption capacity.

Graphene encapsulated FexCoy nanocages derived from metal-organic frameworks as efficient activators for peroxymonosulfate
A series of nitrogen-doped graphene encapsulated FexCoy bimetal (FexCoy@C) nanocages were newly fabricated via a one-step thermal decomposition of Prussian blue analogue FeyCo1-y[Co(CN)6]0.67•nH2O nanospheres at different temperatures. The as-synthesized FexCoy@C nanocages were systematically characterized and applied as effective catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the removal of bisphenol A (BPA).
