Supercomputer framework for reverse engineering firing patterns of neuron populations to identify their synaptic inputs
eLife assessment The study by Chardon et al. is fundamental to advancing our understanding of presynaptic control of motor neuron output. Large-scale computer simulations were performed using well-established single motor neuron models to provide compelling evidence regarding the time-varying patterns of inputs that control motor neuron ensembles. The work will interest the community of motor control, motor unit physiology, neural engineering, and computational neuroscience.

Biofuel burning and human respiration bias on satellite estimates of fossil fuel CO2 emissions
The satellites that have been designed to support the monitoring of fossil fuel CO2 emissions aim to systematically measure atmospheric CO2 plumes generated by intense emissions from large cities, power plants and industrial sites. These data can be assimilated into atmospheric transport models in order to estimate the corresponding emissions.

Objective To compare the long‐term symptom alleviation and re‐intervention of high‐intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation and secondary myomectomy for women with recurrent symptomatic uterine fibroids following myomectomy. Design A retrospective analysis. Setting A general hospital in China. Population One hundred and eighty‐eight women with recurrent symptomatic uterine fibroids following myomectomy.
Microwave-assisted functionalization of the Aurivillius phase Bi2SrTa2O9: diol grafting and amine insertion vs. alcohol grafting
Microwave-assisted functionalization of the layered Aurivillius phase Bi2SrTa2O9 by alcohols is thoroughly investigated. The grafting of linear aliphatic and bulky alcohols is studied as a function of the starting material, underlining the importance of the prefunctionalization of the layered perovskite, for instance by butylamine. In addition, the functionalization by α,ω-alkanediols is explored.
Comparison of severe trauma treatment standards in civilian China with current practice in the Chinese military peacekeeping Level 2 Military Hospital in Gao, Mali
Introduction The People’s Republic of China has been successfully deploying medical teams to support the peacekeeping mission at the Level 2 Military Hospital in Mali since December 2013. The aim of this paper was to compare the current practice in Chinese Peacekeeping Level 2 Military Hospital with the severe trauma treatment standards reported in China.
Rational construction of core-shell Ni3S2@Ni(OH)2 nanostructure as the battery-like electrode for supercapacitors
Rational constructing hybrid nanostructure electrode holds a promising approach for developing high-performance supercapacitors. Here, we propose Ni3S2@Ni(OH)2 nanostructure directly on Ni foam by employing hydrothermal and chemical bath processes. In such core-shell nanostructure, conductive Ni3S2 nanorods directly on Ni foam without organic binders could make sure the intimate contact and fast electron transport.

P-doped NiCo2S4 nanotubes as battery-type electrode for high-performance asymmetric supercapacitor
NiCo2S4 is the promising electrode material for supercapacitors, due to the rich redox reactions and intrinsically high conductivity. Unfortunately, in most cases, NiCo2S4-based electrodes often suffer from the low specific capacitance, low rate capability and fast capacitance fading. Herein, we have rationally designed P-doped NiCo2S4 nanotube arrays to improve the electrochemical performance through a phosphidation reaction.
What would happen to FEMA if the government shuts down?
WASHINGTON — As lawmakers continue to try to pass a long-term spending bill — or yet another temporary stopgap measure — to avoid a government shutdown before Friday at midnight, many federal employees are watching negotiations closely, wondering about the short-term fate of their jobs.
Sodium fluoride PET imaging as a quantitative pharmacodynamic biomarker for bone homeostasis during anti-DKK1 therapy for multiple myeloma
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignancy of plasma cells that characteristically localizes to bone, resulting in osteolytic lesions in 80% of patients.1 Patients responding to standard therapies have lower levels of serum DKK1, a negative regulator of bone formation, suggesting that myeloma cells are the main source of circulating DKK1 protein.2 As such, DKK1 is a promising target for treatment of MM-associated bone disease.3 A phase IB clinical study of BHQ880, a humanized IgG4 monoclonal...

Leukemia - Donor and recipient age, gender and ABO incompatibility regardless of donor source: validated criteria for donor selection for haematopoietic transplants
Prior data indicate similar outcomes after transplants from human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-haplotype-matched relatives, HLA-identical siblings and HLA-matched unrelated donors. We used our prospective data set to answer a clinically important question: who is the best donor for a person with acute leukaemia transplanted in first complete remission. Patients were randomly divided into training ( n =611) and validation ( n =588) sets.
Medical therapy for preventing recurrent endometriosis after conservative surgery: a cost‐effectiveness analysis
To assess the cost‐effectiveness of different strategies, including gonadotropin‐releasing hormone agonist (GnRH‐a) and oral contraceptive therapy, for the prevention of endometriosis recurrence after conservative surgery. Patients who underwent conservative laparoscopic or laparotomic surgery for endometriosis. A Markov model was developed for the endometriosis disease course. Clinical data were obtained from published studies.
The pregnancy outcome of progesterone-primed ovarian stimulation using medroxyprogesterone acetate4mg versus 10mg daily in infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilization: a randomized controlled trial - Dong - 2017 - BJOG: An International Journal of O
To investigate the clinical outcome and endocrinological characteristics of progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) using medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) 4mg versus 10mg daily in infertile women with normal ovary reserve. HMG 225IU/d and MPA (group A: 10mg/d; group B: 4mg/d) were started simultaneously from cycle day 3 onwards. Ovulation was induced with co-triggered by hCG (1000IU) and GnRH agonist (0.1mg) when dominant follicles matured.

Preventive care has the potential to improve health status thus reduce the use of the expensive emergency room care. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded coverage for preventive services. This study examines the association between ACA-covered preventive care and emergency room visits and costs.
Risk Of Cardiovascular Diseases From Add-On Of Inhaled Tiotropium To Combined Therapy Of Inhaled Corticosteroids And Long-Acting Beta-Agonists In Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients - Value in Health
Recent studies have indicated an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) from tiotropium, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist, and long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs). Given tiotropium is commonly added to LABAs in combined with inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), we examined whether add-on of tiotropium is associated with an increased CVD risk in a COPD population.
Burden Of Copd In China: A Systematic Literature Review
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ranked the fourth as a leading cause of death in China. This study aims to systematically review the evidence on burden of disease associated with COPD in China.
Readmission Due to Infection Following Total Hip and Total Knee Procedures
Policymakers have expanded readmissions penalties to include elective arthroplasties, but little is known about the risk factors for readmissions following these procedures. We hypothesized that infections after total hip and total knee ((TH/TK) arthroplasty can lead to readmissions and drive up the costs. This study aims to evaluate the proportion of readmissions due to infections following TH/TK arthroplasties.
