1 Introduction Globally, 148 million children under the age of five suffer from stunting, defined as a height-for-age Z score below −2 SD, with 43% in Africa (World Health Organization 2023). Stunting, a key measure of chronic undernutrition, has profound short- and long-term consequences on health, cognitive abilities, educational outcomes, and future income potential, creating a cycle of disadvantage across generations (Black et al. 2013; Hoddinott et al. 2013).
