Global trends and projections of rehabilitation needs in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 1990–2050: an analysis using WHO rehabilitation need estimates
Abstract Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major contributor to disability worldwide. Rehabilitation plays an important role in improving functional outcomes, yet global patterns of potential population-level rehabilitation needs among people with COPD remain insufficiently described.

Rapid-onset respiratory failure following diesel aspiration at 4,200 m: a case report
Abstract Background: Oral siphoning of diesel fuel carries substantial risks of chemical inhalation injury; however, documented cases of diesel aspiration pneumonia, especially at altitudes >2,500 m, remain rare. The synergistic effects of hydrocarbon toxicity and hypobaric hypoxia in such environments are inadequately characterized. Case presentation: A 23-year-old man accidentally aspirated approximately 10 mL of diesel while siphoning a fuel line at 4,200 m altitude.

Cell-free chromatin state tracing reveals disease origin and therapy responses - Nature
|
Abstract Cell-free DNA in blood originates from fragmented chromatin released by dying cells from both healthy and diseased tissues1,2. These fragments carry rich molecular modalities that can reveal pathological alterations in tissues of origin3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Here we develop cf-EpiTracing, a highly sensitive automated platform that profiles histone modifications in cell-free DNA from as little as 50 μl of human plasma.

Adaptation of the invasive pest Drosophila suzukii to a specialized nutritional niche
Introduction How do species evolve to exploit specific niches within their environments, and what molecular mechanisms enable their adaptations? These questions are central to our understanding of natural selection, ecological specialization, and speciation (Forister et al., 2012; Heidel-Fischer & Vogel, 2015; Santos et al., 2017; Sexton et al., 2017; Cornwallis et al., 2023).
Unlocking new horizons in oncology: ivonescimab’s dual-target approach to anti-VEGF/PD-1(L1) therapy
Introduction Programmed death-1 (PD-1) is an immune checkpoint receptor and that regulates T cell activity by inhibiting immune responses and promoting self-tolerance. Programmed Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1), the natural receptor for PD-1, predominantly expressed on tumor cells, binds PD-1 to activate downstream signaling pathways and suppresses T cell activation, cytokine secretion, and induces apoptosis; Critically, the PD-1/PD-L1 axis is a key mechanism enabling tumor immune evasion (1).
Case Report: High altitude, young lives: unmasking pulmonary hypertension in two unique cases
Introduction The high-altitude environment (typically defined as > 2,500 m above sea level) attracts a large number of travelers, migrant workers, and long-term residents annually. It is estimated that over 80 million people permanently reside above 2,500 m worldwide (1). However, the extreme environment of hypobaric hypoxia presents a series of physiological challenges to the unacclimatized body, often inducing various high-altitude illnesses (2).

Advanced Microarrays as Heterogeneous Force‐Remodeling Coordinator to Orchestrate Nuclear Configuration and Force‐Sensing Mechanotransduction in Stem Cells
1 Introduction The mechanical properties of cells, including cell hardness, membrane tension and viscosity, and skeleton stress, can not only change the physiological conditions such as cell adhesion, spreading, growth, proliferation, migration, and aging but also play an important role in the evolution and development of various biological diseases.[1] An in-depth study on the mechanical properties of cells is expected to provide a basis for developing new technologies for disease diagnosis...
From the Formation of Conceptual Framework to Regulatory Decision-maki
Background The concept of “patient-focused drug development (PFDD)” was formally proposed by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2012,1 and a PFDD team was established in the same year to encourage patients to participate in the research and development (R&D) decision-making process.2 By the end of 2023, the US FDA held 195 special meetings for various diseases,3 all of which invited patients to participate and solicit their opinions. PFDD is increasingly valued by global drug R&D.

Calamitic Blatter Radicals for Large‐Area Solution‐Coated Resistive Memories
Abstract Radical molecules exhibit fast redox kinetics, are widely explored for data processing and energy storage. However, the insulating aliphatic matrix isolates the radical units, thus resulting in a weak charge transporting ability. Herein, calamitic Blatter radicals (CBR) with highly conductive [1]benzothieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene (BTBT) as the conjugated backbone are designed and synthesized.

Comparison of metastable pitting behavior of austenitic and duplex stainless steels under U‐bending deformation
Abstract The metastable pitting behavior of austenitic stainless steel (304 SS) and duplex stainless steel (2205 DSS) under U-bending deformation is comparatively investigated. This work highlights the effects of differences in inclusions and matrix between 304 SS and 2205 DSS with regard to the metastable pitting behavior under tensile and compressive deformation.

Characterization of novel MSX1 variants causally associated with non‐syndromic oligodontia in Chinese families
1 INTRODUCTION Tooth agenesis (TA) is a frequent developmental dental abnormality. In permanent teeth, TA incidence is 6%–7% in the general population (Rakhshan, 2015). Depending on whether it is accompanied by developmental abnormalities in other organs, TA can be divided into syndromic TA (STA) and non-syndromic TA (NSTA) (Zeng et al., 2019).

Controlled phase and crystallinity of FeNCN/NC dominating sodium storage performance
Controlled phase and crystallinity of FeNCN/NC dominating sodium storage performance hui qi, Yan Hou, Wenjing Wang, Lin Tang, Chuanyun Zhang, Wen Deng, Yayi Cheng and Jingjing Zhang Abstract FeNCN is a kind of potentially fast charging sodium ion anodes due to lots of broad tunnels and high electronic conductivity. However, FeNCN is rarely investigated due to its complicated synthesis process and unclear synthesis mechanism, which will affect the precise control of its phase and crystallinity.
Current Status of Dyslipidemia Treatment for Stroke Prevention
Abstract Purpose of Review Elevated cholesterol is an established risk factor for ischemic stroke. The value of statins for stroke prevention has been clear for more than a decade. Recent Findings However, the use of new medication combinations such as ezetimibe or proprotein convertase subtilisin–kexin type 9 inhibitors plus statins is increasing and the value for reducing stroke has been shown for these combination therapies.
