Aberrant activation of tissue-resident lymphocytes and pro-fibrotic GZMK⁺ CD8⁺ T cells in IPF
Abstract Tissue-resident immune cells play a crucial role in chronic lung diseases, yet a comprehensive profile of these cells in human lungs is lacking. Here, we explore alterations of resident immune cells in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a fatal lung disease characterized by tissue inflammation and progressive scarring. Utilizing ex-vivo human lung perfusion with single-cell RNA-sequencing, we successfully segregate the resident immune cells.
Hedgehog-interacting protein orchestrates alveologenesis and protects against bronchopulmonary dysplasia and emphysema
Abstract Most of the lung’s gas-exchange surface forms during alveologenesis and its disruption causes bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in infants, characterized by alveolar simplification and myofibroblast accumulation. BPD also increases the risk of adult emphysema, marked by alveolar loss. Despite this connection, mechanisms linking these conditions and effective treatments are still lacking.

General-purpose machine-learned potential for 16 elemental metals and their alloys - Nature Communications
Abstract Machine-learned potentials (MLPs) have exhibited remarkable accuracy, yet the lack of general-purpose MLPs for a broad spectrum of elements and their alloys limits their applicability. Here, we present a promising approach for constructing a unified general-purpose MLP for numerous elements, demonstrated through a model (UNEP-v1) for 16 elemental metals and their alloys.
Alloy synthesis and processing by semi-supervised text mining - npj Computational Materials
Abstract Alloy synthesis and processing determine the design of alloys with desired microstructure and properties. However, using data science to identify optimal synthesis-design routes from a specified set of starting materials has been limited by large-scale data acquisition. Text mining has made it possible to convert scientific text into structured data collections.
Understanding the migration mechanism of hydrogen atom from the α-Fe matrix into nano-precipitates via DFT calculations
Understanding the migration mechanism of hydrogen atom from the α-Fe matrix into nano-precipitates via DFT calculations The service of high-strength steel suffers from the threat of hydrogen embrittlement and introducing nano-precipitate is an effective avenue to mitigate it. How the hydrogen atom migrates into the nano-precipitate is an important question that requires to be clarified.

Ferroptosis: A Novel Type of Cell Death in Male Reproduction
1. Introduction It is known that cell death is classified as accidental cell death (ACD) or regulated cell death (RCD) [1]. Distinguished from ACD caused by an exposure to severe physical, chemical, or mechanical damage, the latter is capable of being regulated pharmacologically or genetically. RCD was mainly studied in three categories—apoptosis, autophagy, and necrosis—before ferroptosis was officially proposed and became a research hotspot.
A descriptor for the design of 2D MXene hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalysts
A descriptor for the design of 2D MXene hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalysts† Changxin Wang, ‡ab Xiaoxu Wang,‡cd Tianyao Zhang, e Ping Qian, *af Turab Lookman *g and Yanjing Su *ab Abstract The two-dimensional metal carbide semiconductor, Ti2CO2, is recognized as having considerable potential as a cost-effective basal plane electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, challenges in terms of both catalytic activity and conductivity still remain.
Stress corrosion cracking of A517 steel in marine environments
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop the existence and mechanism of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) for A517 steel in marine environments. Design/methodology/approach Slow strain rate test (SSRT) and constant load tests were used to investigate the SCC susceptibility of A517 steel. In addition, the additive stresses caused by the corrosion film and hydrogen entering into steel were applied to reveal the fundamental mechanism of the SCC.
Author Correction: Data augmentation in microscopic images for material data mining
Correction to: npj Computational Materials https://doi.org/10.1038/s41524-020-00392-6, published online 18 August 2020 The original version of this article omitted the following from the Acknowledgements: “This work was supported by Beijing Top Discipline for Artificial Intelligent Science and Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing”. This has now been corrected in both the PDF and HTML versions of the article.
Data augmentation in microscopic images for material data mining
Abstract Recent progress in material data mining has been driven by high-capacity models trained on large datasets. However, collecting experimental data (real data) has been extremely costly owing to the amount of human effort and expertise required. Here, we develop a novel transfer learning strategy to address problems of small or insufficient data. This strategy realizes the fusion of real and simulated data and the augmentation of training data in a data mining procedure.
