3.1. Characterization of Mo4/3CTx A representation of the atomic structure of vacancy-ordered Mo 4/3 C Txi -MXene is shown in Figures 2 a and S1 , where Tx groups are omitted for clarity. The ordering of V Mo in Mo 4/3 C Tx is caused by the in-plane ordering of the Sc atoms in the parent (Mo 2/3 Sc 1/3 ) 2 AlC phase; the removal of Sc (and Al) by HF treatment retains this ordering of Mo atoms, i.e., it yields ordered Mo vacancies.
