The entorhinal spatial map integrates visual identity information of landmarks
Abstract Landmarks guide navigation by providing information through their location and identity. The medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) is well known for representing landmark location, but whether it also encodes landmark identity remains unclear. Here we show, using two-photon calcium imaging of MEC neurons in mice navigating multiple virtual environments, that a population of neurons known as cue cells encodes landmark identity.

Evaluation of Thermal Stress on Heterogeneous IoT-Based Federated Learning
1. Introduction Conventionally, training a machine learning model involves transferring raw data to a central location for computation and analysis. However, this centralized approach can be impractical due to factors such as large datasets, user privacy concerns, or regulatory restrictions on data collection. To address these issues, Google introduced federated learning [1] in April 2017.

Towards ASR robust spoken language understanding through in-context learning with word confusion networks
In the realm of spoken language understanding (SLU), numerous natural language understanding (NLU) methodologies have been adapted by supplying large language models (LLMs) with transcribed speech instead of conventional written text. In real-world scenarios, prior to input into an LLM, an automated speech recognition (ASR) system generates an output transcript hypothesis, where inherent errors can degrade subsequent SLU tasks.
Generative speech recognition error correction with large language models and task-activating prompting
We explore the ability of large language models (LLMs) to act as speech recognition post-processors that perform rescoring and error correction. Our first focus is on instruction prompting to let LLMs perform these task without fine-tuning, for which we evaluate different prompting schemes, both zeroand few-shot in-context learning, and a novel “task activation” prompting method that combines causal instructions and demonstration to increase its context windows.
The medial entorhinal cortex encodes multisensory spatial information
Abstract Animals employ spatial information in multisensory modalities to navigate their natural environments. However, it is unclear whether the brain encodes such information in separate cognitive maps or integrate all into a single, universal map. We addressed this question in the microcircuit of the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC), a cognitive map of space.

FedCM updates: Login Status API, Error API, and Auto-selected Flag API
Chrome 120 is shipping the Login Status API for FedCM. The Login Status API (formerly known as IdP Sign-in Status API) allows websites, particularly identity providers, to signal to the browser when their users are logging in and out. This signal is used by FedCM to address a silent timing attack problem, and in doing so, allows FedCM to operate without third-party cookies altogether.
The flow of axonal information among hippocampal sub-regions 2: patterned stimulation sharpens routing of information transmission
Introduction The function of the trisynaptic loop in the mammalian hippocampus is widely understood to govern the processes of learning and episodic memory. However, the spike dynamics that support the specific functions of each sub-region of this network have not been compared in a unitary system. The trisynaptic loop is composed of distinct sub-regions that each have a unique computational role in integrating and processing information transmitted from the neocortex to the hippocampus.
Personalization for BERT-based discriminative speech recognition rescoring
The language AI agents might speak, sharing context without compromising privacy, modeling agentic negotiations, and understanding users’ commonsense policies are some of the open scientific questions that researchers in agentic AI will need to grapple with. With a novel parallel-computing architecture, a CAD-to-USD pipeline, and the use of OpenUSD as ground truth, a new simulator can explore hundreds of sensor configurations in the time it takes to test just a few physical setups.

High SNRPA1 expression leads to poor prognosis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma
Effect of SNRPA1 on the activation of immune microenvironment Considering the vital role of immune microenvironment in the progression of tumors, we evaluated the correlation between SNRPA1 expression and immunocyte infiltration in LUAD using the TIMER database. The data indicated that SNRPA1 significantly positively associated with the infiltration of B cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, neutrophil, macrophage, and dendritic cells (Figures 6A and ).

Mitigating closed-model adversarial examples with Bayesian neural modeling for enhanced end-to-end speech recognition
In this work, we aim to enhance the system robustness of end-to-end automatic speech recognition (ASR) against adversarially-noisy speech examples. We focus on a rigorous and empirical “closed model adversarial robustness” setting (e.g., on-device or cloud applications). The adversarial noise is only generated by closed-model optimization (e.g., evolutionary and zeroth-order estimation) without accessing gradient information of a targeted ASR model directly.
RescoreBERT: Using BERT models to improve ASR rescoring
When someone speaks to a voice agent like Alexa, an automatic speech recognition (ASR) model converts the speech to text. Typically, the core ASR model is trained on limited data, which means that it can struggle with rare words and phrases. So the ASR model’s hypotheses usually pass to a language model — a model that encodes the probabilities of sequences of words — trained on a much larger body of texts. The language model reranks the hypotheses, with the goal of improving ASR accuracy.
Using NLU labels to improve an ASR rescoring model
Typically, when someone speaks to a voice agent like Alexa, an automatic speech recognition (ASR) model converts the speech to text. A natural-language-understanding (NLU) model then interprets the text, giving the agent structured data that it can act on. Traditionally, ASR systems were pipelined, with separate acoustic models, dictionaries, and language models.
