Cost-effectiveness of laser interstitial thermal therapy vs. anterior temporal lobectomy for drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy: A decision analytic model
A decision-analytic model compared ATL vs. LITT for drug-resistant mTLE over 1 year from a healthcare system perspective. ATL had higher effectiveness (61% vs. 55%) but higher cost ($145 847 vs. $108730), yielding an ICER of $574 521 per additional positive outcome. Sensitivity analyses showed LITT was more cost-effective in most scenarios, with ATL favored only under high efficacy and low complication rates.
Focal Cortical Dysplasia Type II: Somatic Mutations, Molecular Mechanisms, and Integrative Multi-Omics Framework
1 Introduction Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is among the most common structural substrates of drug-resistant epilepsy in children [1]. In pediatric cohorts undergoing surgical evaluation and resection, FCD is also one of the most frequent pathological diagnoses [2, 3]. Under the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) classification, FCD comprises types I–III.

Agricultural soil microbiomes are structurally and functionally more resistant to warming than adjacent natural ecosystems
|
Abstract Agricultural soil microbiomes experience frequent disturbance from intensive management and may therefore be better equipped to withstand climate warming than microbiomes in undisturbed natural soils. Here we test this by combining a continental-scale warming microcosm experiment across 100 paired agricultural–natural sites with a global meta-analysis and three microbiome manipulation experiments (microbial suspensions, cross-inoculation and synthetic communities).

Phosphoproteomic Insights into the Metabolic Reprogramming of Cell Growth and Lipid Accumulation in Mucor circinelloides
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Mucor circinelloides is a model oleaginous fungus for studying microbial lipid accumulation, yet the post-translational mechanisms coordinating growth and lipid biosynthesis remain poorly understood. Here, we present the first systematic quantitative phosphoproteomic analysis of M. circinelloides across its life cycle, encompassing spores and mycelia at 6 h, 24 h (nitrogen depletion), and 96 h.
Clinical outcomes and learning curve of MRgLITT system for drug‐resistant epilepsy in China: A single‐center retrospective study
MRgLITT achieved seizure freedom in 66.7% of patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. Over 94% of patients showed >50% clinical improvement after surgery. Single, well-localized lesions and ≥90% ablation rate predicted better seizure outcomes. Learning curve reached a turning point at the 19th case; operative time and hospitalization decreased with increasing experience. No serious complications occurred; minor side effects fully resolved within 1 month.
A fiber bundle model for compressive failures of compacted Antarctic snow
Abstract Compressive failures of snow pose significant challenges in snow engineering, particularly for snow roads and runways. Analyzing their microstructural evolution under compression is critical for predicting failure mechanisms and improving design reliability.
Presurgical Characteristics and Seizure Outcomes in Patients With Focal Cortical Dysplasia Type I, II, and III: A Single‐Center Study
1 Introduction Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), first described by Taylor et al. in the 1970s (Taylor et al. 1971), is a common cause of drug-resistant epilepsy in both children and adults (Blumcke et al. 2017). It is estimated that approximately 18.7%–40% of pediatric epilepsy patients and 19.8% of adult epilepsy patients have FCD (Blumcke et al. 2017; Liu et al. 2022; Kun et al. 2020). Among individuals with FCD, 87% will develop epilepsy, and about 75% of those will become drug-resistant (Cohen et al.

Distinct gray matter and metabolic characteristics in hypothalamic hamartoma network with different semiology
Patients with HHs exhibited increased GMV in the ipsilateral amygdala, piriform cortex, hypothalamus, and bilateral temporal cortices, suggesting the involvement of a broader epileptogenic network. Patients with FBTCSs showed increased GMV mainly in the hypothalamic attachment area, whereas those without FBTCSs had increased GMV primarily in the amygdala. These semiology-specific patterns support differential network involvement.
Quantitative Cortex‐Based Mapping With Hybrid 18F‐FDG‐PET/MR Images in MRI‐Negative Epilepsy
1 Introduction Compared to focal epilepsy with identifiable lesions, the success rate of surgery for MRI-negative epilepsy is lower [1, 2]. Up to 90% of individuals with MRI-negative drug-resistant focal epilepsy (DRFE) may be considered candidates for surgical intervention, which offers significant potential for improving seizure control [3, 4]. Improvements in seizure outcomes depend on increased accuracy of localization of the seizure onset zone.

Delineating structural and metabolic abnormalities in amygdala and hippocampal subfields for different seizure‐onset patterns via stereotactic electroencephalography
1 INTRODUCTION Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) is the most common type of medically intractable focal epilepsy.1 Hypersynchronous (HYP) and low-voltage fast (LVF) rhythms are the two main types of MTLE seizure onset identified with stereotactic electroencephalography (SEEG).2-4 These two seizure-onset patterns (SOPs) have differing pathogenesis, seizure duration, propagation time, distribution,4-6 and surgical prognoses.7-9 Onset with LVF is more frequently observed in neocortical...

Microfluidic Biochips for Single‐Cell Isolation and Single‐Cell Analysis of Multiomics and Exosomes
1 Introduction Cells contain various biological components, such as DNA, RNA, proteins, and exosomes, which perform complex intracellular and intercellular functions and jointly maintain the normal physiological activities of cells.[1-5] There are complex connections among them.[6, 7] However, their roles remain controversial and difficult to elucidate because the microenvironment can affect the expression of these messages, and it is challenging to determine the cells from which these...

A Novel Barbell‐Shaped Perforated Auxetic Metastructure with Superior Auxetic Effect
Recently, artificial perforated auxetic meta-structures with negative Poisson’s ratio (NPR) have attracted considerable attention with the superior mechanical properties. The concepts and design methods of various types of perforated auxetic meta-structures have developed rapidly. However, the effective Poisson’s ratio exhibited by the majority of current perforated auxetic meta-structures has a lower limit of -1, which restrains their potential applications significantly.

Towards an Optimized Artificial Neural Network for Predicting Flow Stress of In718 Alloys at High Temperatures
Abstract : Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have been an important approach for predicting the value of flow stress, which is dependent on temperature, strain, and strain rate. However, there is still a lack of sufficient knowledge regarding what structure of ANN should be used for predicting metal flow stress.

Clove extract function as a natural fatty acid synthesis inhibitor and prevent obesity in a mouse model
Numerous medicinal plants have been reported to prevent various chronic diseases. In this study, we screened a new FASN inhibitor-alcohol extract of clove (AEC) using a fast microplate method developed in our laboratory. The major components of AEC were: eugenol (42.27%), acetyl eugenol (29.12%), caryophyllene (15.40%), and humulene (3.22%). Fatty acid synthase (FASN) is a key enzyme for de novo lipogenesis, and it has been suggested as a potential therapeutic target in cancer and obesity.
