Mental health should not be viewed solely as a passive outcome of climate adaptation. Rather, it serves as a key determinant of cognitive capacity and shapes the effectiveness of climate adaptation. Here we call for the integration of mental health into adaptation assessments and policy implementation.

1 Introduction Cation exchange, a critical water-rock interaction in clay-rich systems, plays a pivotal role in regulating geochemical cycles (Huang et al., 2022; Owen et al., 2016; Yasuda et al., 2025), influencing water quality (Appelo & Postma, 2005; Gao et al., 2020; Zhu et al., 2024), and distinguishing carbonate weathering contributions from silicate (Han & Li, 2025; Tipper et al., 2021).

Abstract Dietary choices are fundamental to both human health and planetary sustainability, yet most evaluations still operate at the level of ingredients or food groups. This perspective neglects the cultural and culinary contexts that shape consumption and fails to capture the transformations induced by cooking methods. Such gaps limit our ability to assess trade-offs between nutrition, environmental sustainability, and economic affordability in ways that reflect real-world diets.
