Introduction Clinical and experimental models showed that excessive alcohol consumption results in multiple organ injuries, including the brain, lungs, and liver (Morris and Yeligar, 2018). Over 75% of autopsies of chronic alcoholics had severe brain damage, and over 50% of detoxified alcoholics displayed some degree of learning and memory impairment (Vetreno et al., 2011). As we all known, alcohol permeates the blood–brain barrier.
