Introduction Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common reproductive endocrine disorder, in which patients often present with ovulatory disturbances, amenorrhoea, and androgen excess disorders (1). PCOS in adults is diagnosed when at least two of the following three criteria are met: impaired ovarian function, clinical and/or biochemical hyperandrogens, and polycystic ovaries (2). Despite a long history of PCOS research, its pathogenesis remains unclear.
