1 Introduction Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) (Fislage et al., 2024; Evered et al., 2018) refers to cognitive impairment occurring around the time of surgery, including cognitive impairment present before surgery and new cognitive decline developing within 12 months postoperatively, meeting the diagnostic criteria for neurocognitive disorders in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
