1 Introduction Poplars are fast-growing trees that are widely distributed and extensively cultivated worldwide. Leaf rust is a globally widespread disease that poses a major threat to poplar cultivation and production (Eberl et al. 2018). Therefore, identifying rust-resistant genes in poplars and breeding resistant poplar varieties are fundamental and sustainable strategies for managing leaf rust disease.
