Abstract This study draws on a synergy of corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis to scrutinize the Western media coverage of China in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The findings reveal that the Western media mainly focus on competition outcomes in their coverage of China. China is depicted as a country that won medal, gold medals in particular, in various Olympic sports events.
