Introduction Vegetable oils are key feedstocks for biodiesel production, which is chemically derived from triacylglycerols (TAG). TAG has more than twice the energy density of carbohydrates, and its metabolism can power numerous cellular processes. Every plant cell is capable of synthesizing fatty acids (FA), which are key building blocks to produce both membranes and TAG.
