Causal language use in systematic reviews of observational studies is often inconsistent with intent: A systematic survey

Abstract Objective We systematically evaluated causal language use in systematic reviews of observational studies and explored the relation between language use and the intent of the investigation. Study Design and Setting We searched Embase, Medline, and Epistemonikos. We randomly selected 199 reviews published in 2019, stratified in a 1:1 ratio by use and non-use of the GRADE approach to rating quality of evidence.
Comparative efficacy and safety of alternative glucocorticoids regimens in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis: a systematic review
Included studies The RCT by Walsh et al24 was a multicentre trial including 704 patients with severe AAV at 95 centres in 16 countries (median duration of follow-up: 2.9 years). This study was a 2-by-2 factorial design and compared the efficacy of plasma exchange with or without plasma exchange for AAV, as well as the efficacy of a reduced-dose regimen and a standard-dose regimen of GC over the first 6 months of the treatment period.
