1 Introduction Effective separation of crude oil from its emulsions in water remains a critical global challenge due to frequent oil spills, wastewater generation during crude oil production, and discharge from the petroleum refining industry during the desalting process [1-5]. Oil emulsions stabilized with surfactants are particularly problematic, posing severe threats to ecosystems, aquatic life, and human health by contaminating freshwater sources [6, 7].

We report the synthesis of a proton sponge scaffold, 1,1′,8,8′-tetraazabifluorenylidene (TABF), based on a bifluorenylidene backbone incorporating pyridine units and capable of binding two protons intramolecularly.
