1 INTRODUCTION Predator–prey interactions represent key interspecific behaviours (Abrams, 2000; Chase et al., 2002). In nocturnal, small-bodied organisms, such as bats and moths, interactions are difficult to observe in natural environments. Because of this, laboratory studies are often used to examine the outcomes of predator–prey interactions (e.g. Corcoran & Conner, 2016; Corcoran et al., 2009; Dunning, 1968; Fernández et al., 2022; Rubin et al., 2023).
