Social conformity fractures the evolutionary dynamics of cooperation
Abstract Cooperation underlies many living and social systems, yet it is often threatened by individuals who gain by exploiting others. Social conformity can help groups coordinate, but it can also lock people into unhelpful norms. Here we show, with a mathematical model of a mixed population, how payoff-seeking learners and conformity-driven learners jointly shape cooperation.
Robustness of interdependent hypergraphs: A bipartite network framework
In this paper, we develop a bipartite network framework to study the robustness of interdependent hypergraphs. From such a perspective, nodes and hyperedges of a hypergraph are equivalent to each other, a property that largely simplifies their mathematical treatment. We develop a general percolation theory based on this representation and apply it to study the robustness of interdependent hypergraphs against random damage, which we verify with numerical simulations.
