1. Introduction Sulfur mustard (SM, bis[2-chloroethyl] sulfide), also known as mustard gas, is a chemical warfare agent, initially used during WWI. Despite being banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), it is still occasionally released in asymmetric conflicts or terrorist attacks. Furthermore, old SM depots pose a threat due to potential release and accidental exposure [1]. SM has strong vesicant and blister-forming effects on skin and eyes.
