It’s the 100th anniversary of Route 66, and in Chicago, you’re at the start of the Mother Road. A two-hour-and-change drive takes you to a colorful collection of statues illustrating their place in advertising history. Take I-55 south to Atlanta, Illinois, get off at exit 140, and see “Lumi,” a large fiberglass lady, greeting you with a warm, bespectacled smile and an enormous fresh pie, letting you know the American Giants Museum is nearby.

They say a woman’s work is never done, and that maxim is on display in 18 film noir offerings at Noir City: Chicago, playing from September 5–11 at the Music Box Theatre. This year’s fest—-with the subtitle “Where winsome women turn wicked!”—focuses on the ladies who made these movies so memorable more than 80 years after they were first seen on the silver screen. It’s not just the singular femme fatale, although there are killers in the mix.

25th anniversary of Chicago's Englewood Jazz Fest is Saturday

CHICAGO (CBS) — Ernest Dawkins and a slew of outstanding homegrown musical talent take the stage this weekend for the silver anniversary of the Englewood Jazz Festival, and the event's creator has a lot to celebrate. "It's cool. It's very rewarding. It's very exciting," Dawkins said, whose event is nestled in a lush, shady park where, for years, people have been bringing their lawn chairs to enjoy great jazz. Dawkins, a Chicago composer and saxophonist, started the festival with a grant.
