Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prevalently in aging men, is characterized by aberrant cell death of prostate cells. Anoikis, a specific subtype of apoptosis, is triggered when cells detach from the extracellular matrix (ECM), in contrast, cells with anoikis resistance contribute to pathological processes such as unregulated cell proliferation and impaired cell death. However, the role of anoikis resistance in BPH pathogenesis remains poorly understood.

3. Discussion Our novel data show that PPARγ is localized in the epithelial and stromal compartments of human prostate tissue and is downregulated in hyperplastic prostate tissue. We also demonstrate that SV ameliorates the progression of BPH both in vivo and in vitro through apoptosis, cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, attenuation of tissue fibrosis, and the EMT process via upregulating PPARγ and inhibiting the WNT/β-catenin pathway.
