1 INTRODUCTION Macrophages play a pivotal role in the pathophysiological mechanisms of metabolic disorders and its associated complications.1, 2 Hyperglycaemia disrupts macrophage functions through inflammasome-activation and secretion of senescence-associated secretory phenotype.3-5 The accumulation of metabolic changes and impaired macrophages function perpetuates persistent inflammation, even when conventional therapies are employed to maintain blood glucose levels within the normal range.
