Abstract Major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with reduced hippocampal volume, altered connectivity and negative memory bias, suggesting disrupted hippocampal plasticity. Dysregulated adult hippocampal neurogenesis is a potential contributor, but its relevance in humans and role in MDD remain unclear.
