The HydroGym reinforcement learning platform for fluid dynamics
Abstract Effective control of fluid flows is critical across transportation, energy and medicine, where it can increase lift, reduce drag, enhance mixing and attenuate noise1,2,3. Yet fluids are notoriously difficult to control because they involve high-dimensional, nonlinear and multiscale dynamics that resist conventional approaches4,5,6.

The vault associates with membranes in situ
Abstract The eukaryotic vault particle is a giant ribonucleoprotein complex that assembles into an iconic barrel-like cage. Its cellular function has remained elusive despite extensive characterization. Using cryo-electron tomography of Dictyostelium discoideum cells, we define the distribution, structural states, and interaction landscape of vault particles in situ.

Versatile DNA Hydrogel‐Mediated Delivery of Ginsenoside‐Encapsulated Small Extracellular Vesicles to Boost Diabetic Wound Repair
1 Introduction As the primary defense shield, skin protects the human body from pathogenic invasion. But its fragile nature often causes various forms of damage. Unlike minor skin damage that can heal via self-regeneration, complicated injuries, such as diabetic wounds, delay tissue repair [1].

Phosphorus-32 implantation combined with chemotherapy outperforms chemotherapy alone in locally advanced pancreatic cancer: mechanistic insights and future implications
To the Editor: We read with great interest the landmark analysis by Lim et al1 comparing combined phosphorus-32 (P-32) implantation and chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The authors' use of propensity-score weighting to address immortal time bias strengthens the validity of their findings, which demonstrate a clinically significant 189-day improvement in restricted mean survival time and enhanced local control with combination therapy.

GmAKT1‐mediated K+ absorption positively modulates soybean salt tolerance by GmCBL9‐GmCIPK6 complex
Introduction Soil salinization is one of the major abiotic stresses that adversely affect plant growth and development, resulting in significant losses in crop production worldwide (Liang et al., 2024). Approximately 20%–30% of the world's 230 million hectares of arable land is undergoing soil salinization, and this circumstance will continue to worsen due to human activities and other climate change-related factors (Ismail and Horie, 2017).

INF2-mediated actin polymerization at ER-organelle contacts regulates organelle size and movement
Abstract Proper regulation of organelle dynamics is critical for cellular function, but the mechanisms coordinating multiple organelles remain poorly understood. Here we show that actin polymerization mediated by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-anchored formin INF2 acts as a master regulator of organelle morphology and movement.
INF2-mediated actin polymerization at ER-organelle contacts regulates organelle size and movement
Abstract Proper regulation of organelle dynamics and inter-organelle contacts is critical for cellular health and function. Both the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and actin cytoskeleton are known to regulate organelle dynamics, but how, when, and where these two subcellular components are coordinated to control organelle dynamics remains unclear. Here, we show that ER-associated actin consistently marks mitochondrial, endosomal, and lysosomal fission sites.

Expert advice: Unlocking efficiency in proteomics with TMT labeling
While genomics and transcriptomics have seen rapid advancements in high throughput analysis, achieving multiplex capabilities in mass spectrometry-based proteomics has remained challenging. The ability to analyze multiple samples in a single experiment not only saves researchers time but also accelerates discovery, especially in large-scale studies involving numerous samples.
Top considerations for TMT mass spectrometry analysis
First developed in 2003, tandem mass tag (TMT) mass spectrometry is a potent quantitative proteomics tool for simultaneously analyzing multiple samples in a single experiment (1). In a TMT experiment, scientists digest proteins from different samples into peptides and label each peptide with a specific TMT tag.

β-Variational autoencoders and transformers for reduced-order modelling of fluid flows - Nature Communications
Abstract Variational autoencoder architectures have the potential to develop reduced-order models for chaotic fluid flows. We propose a method for learning compact and near-orthogonal reduced-order models using a combination of a β-variational autoencoder and a transformer, tested on numerical data from a two-dimensional viscous flow in both periodic and chaotic regimes.

Expert advice: solving the protein NMR puzzle
Reviewed for scientific accuracy by Gary Shaw, PhD Since its first development in the 1950s, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been a valuable tool for elucidating the structural and dynamic characteristics of molecules, such as small organic compounds and large biological macromolecules. In an NMR experiment, molecules are exposed to a strong magnetic field, causing certain atomic nuclei within the molecules to behave like small magnets.

Sample size calculations for randomized controlled trials with repeatedly measured continuous variables as primary outcomes need improvements: a cross-sectional study
This paper is only available as a PDF. To read, Please Download here. What is new? Key findings • Among RCTs using repeatedly measured continuous variables as primary outcomes, only few trials considered the number of repeated measurements and the correlations among repeated measurements when calculating the sample size. • Some trials used the wrong formula (i.e., N*(1+ lose rate) for sample size adjustment.
Breaking through immune suppression with CAR T cells Original
Since 2017, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved six chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies for treating blood cancers (1). Behind the excitement around these therapies is the concern about patients’ short-lived responses to CAR T cell infusions, limiting their chances of long-term survival.
Visualizing epigenetics in cancer
Microscopy is an essential tool for clinical diagnosis and for understanding the pathogenesis of cancer. By examining alternations in nuclei architectures, a hallmark of cancer cells, pathologists identify and assess tumor progression. Inside the nucleus, genomic DNA folds into compact chromatin structures that regulate DNA transcription and genomic stability, defining cancer development.

Epigenetic cancer therapy: Targets and strategies Original
Download the infographic here Inhibiting histone deacetylation Histone deacetylases (HDACs) remove acetyl groups from histone lysine residues, leading to closed chromatin structures and gene silencing. HDAC mutations aberrantly deacetylate or inactivate tumor suppressor genes that slow cell division, promoting cancer development (1). HDAC inhibitor drugs upregulate tumor suppressor genes and inhibit cancer cell growth.

Chemotherapy’s hidden origins
On the night of December 2, 1943, German bombers attacked the southern Italian port of Bari. Serving as a vital hub for the Allied troops during World War II, the harbor was crowded with ships loaded with ammunition and supplies. As explosions lit up the sky, seventeen ships sank, including the United States Liberty ship, John Harvey. The ship’s cargo of bombs blew up, spilling oil into the water and dispersing smoke into the air.
Application of Mineralized Chitosan Scaffolds in Bone Tissue Engineering
1. Introduction Bone defects caused by aging, trauma, tumor resection, and osteonecrosis remain a major concern in clinical research, leading to disability, health loss, and impaired quality of life, and pose a serious economic burden [1]. At present, the main methods used for treating large-sized bone defects are autologous and allogeneic bone grafts [2]. Autologous bone grafts are considered the gold standard for bone tissue repair.
Growth of Single-Crystalline GaN Films on Ga-Free Langasite-Type Crystals by Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition
Langasite (La3Ga5SiO14, LGS) family crystals are known for their piezoelectric properties, which make them widely applicable in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The group-III metal nitrides formed on LGS substrates are found to enable significant extension of SAW devices to higher-frequency ranges. However, the Ga element in LGS crystals is observed to volatilize in H2 at high temperatures, forming Ga droplets and degrading the film quality.
