Large rock defences are being installed on a Merseyside beach after storms increased the risk of flooding in the area, which is close to houses. The emergency work at Hightown Beach in Sefton, aims to slow down the erosion of sand dunes, which are the primary flood defence for nearby homes, some just just 80m away. This installation of "rock armour" on the northern side of the beach comes after Storm Dave caused significant erosion to the dunes in April, Sefton Council said.
