1 Introduction Epimedium, the largest herbaceous genus in the Berberidaceae family, comprises approximately 62 species (Zhuang et al., 2023). These plants have a discontinuous distribution from Algeria in North Africa to East Asia, where the majority of the species (approximately 52) have undergone continuous evolution (Wang J. et al., 2022; Zhang et al., 2022b).
