A Eugene-based environmental group is suing the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, alleging that it violated the Congressional Review Act when making a timber sale about 15 miles southwest of Corvallis near the community of Alsea. In a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Cascadia Wildlands alleges that the Aloha Trout Timber Sale was done illegally because BLM did not submit its 2016 resource management plan for the area for Congressional review.

Fire at Eugene’s Davis NW Smokehouse being investigated as arson

A fire at Eugene restaurant Davis Northwest Smokehouse appears to have been started intentionally, according to investigators. Fire Chief Mike Caven said crews extinguished the 2:30 a.m. fire on Saturday in about 30 minutes, which is when investigators found evidence that the fire was intentionally set, leading to an arson investigation. “If you’ve got a warming fire or are just fooling around with fire, that’s reckless burning unless your recklessness ends up injuring someone,” said Caven.

Oakridge ranked 5th U.S. best mountain biking town by Outside Magazine
