As guests arrived for Friendship Center’s third annual Senior Prom this spring, there were dresses to admire, jackets to straighten, old friends to greet, and a dance floor waiting just a few steps away. Volunteers and Richie’s barbers gave guests makeovers. Corsages were pinned. Music filled the room. Members arrived hand in hand with spouses, children, caregivers, and friends. For a few hours, the focus shifted to dancing, laughter, and simply being together.

There are few places where summer feels quite as complete as it does from the deck of a boat at sunset. The day’s heat softens, the Santa Ynez Mountains begin to glow pink, dolphins occasionally ride the bow wake, and the Pacific settles into that familiar golden calm that somehow makes everyone slow down. For decades, the Condor Express has built its reputation on showing visitors and locals alike the extraordinary wildlife that calls the Santa Barbara Channel home.

For many people, vision loss arrives gradually. A favorite novel becomes difficult to read. Faces across a room lose their clarity. Street signs resolve later than they once did. The television gets larger, the lighting brighter, and the magnifying glasses stronger. Eventually, many people assume they have reached the blurry end of the road. Dr. Andrew Bock wants them to know that often they have not.
