The province is “exploring potential options,” but no plans have yet been finalized to establish a dedicated emergency shelter and supportive housing in Corner Brook. The provincial government will not be extending its lease on Horizons 106 in St. John’s, which is currently being used as transitional housing with added supports for those struggling to secure an affordable and safe place to live.

Government to Spend $7.1-Million on Repairs to Bonne Bay Road (Photo via Google Maps) The federal government says it plans to spend $7.1-million on upgrades to a section of Bonne Bay Road through Gros Morne National Park. Officials plan to repair a section of the road known as Barters Hill, which was severely damaged by a storm in 2018. The project includes a new retaining wall with a 75-year lifespan and a new strip of pavement. Work is set to begin this summer.

Macklem: Canada Not in a Recession

The Governor of the Bank of Canada says the country is not in a recession. The central bank left the central interest rate alone yesterday at 2.25 per cent. The latest price data showed the annual rate of inflation jumped to 2.8 per cent in April as the energy price shock from conflict in the Middle East has consumers paying more at the pumps this spring. Gas in metro costs about $1.85 per litre. Tiff Macklem says the economy is flat, but the data does not constitute a recession.
