(Photo by Zane Wolfang) The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council has determined that excavation work taking place at 323 Tuckerman Ave. in Middletown is encroaching upon a coastal access point. Right of way Y-1 on Tuckerman Point is frequented by the public in part because there is more legal parking available there than any of the other nine CRMC coastal access points in Middletown.

The Middletown Democratic Committee hosted a candidate meet and greet on March 23. Candidates Keith Hoffman and Sue AnderBois were invited to speak. Hoffman is seeking the endorsement in the Democratic primary for state attorney general and AnderBois is running for lieutenant governor. Middletown Committee Recommends Closing Island Airport

The chair of the Middletown Affordable Housing Committee is recommending that Newport State Airport be closed, with the land then being used for affordable housing. Lawrence Frank made the proposal to the state’s housing secretary, Deborah Goddard, on Feb. 5. His unconventional approach was met with skepticism from Goddard, but Frank insisted that the entire Middletown property can be developed into affordable, and taxable, housing lots.
