Mohi-ud-din Abu Muhammad Abu Saleh Abdul Qadir al-Jeelani (Al-Jilani) was an illustrious ascetic and mystic who became famous as the eponymous founder of the Qadriyah order of Sunni Sufism. He was Najeeb‑u‑Tarafaen Syed — that is, a descendant of the Prophet (SAW) on both sides of his family. Al-Jilani was born in a place called Neef, situated in Gilaan (Jilan) in Persia; for this reason he is remembered as Al‑Jilani or Geelani. Two narrations exist about his birth date.
