Ferroptosis: A Novel Type of Cell Death in Male Reproduction

1. Introduction It is known that cell death is classified as accidental cell death (ACD) or regulated cell death (RCD) [1]. Distinguished from ACD caused by an exposure to severe physical, chemical, or mechanical damage, the latter is capable of being regulated pharmacologically or genetically. RCD was mainly studied in three categories—apoptosis, autophagy, and necrosis—before ferroptosis was officially proposed and became a research hotspot.
