Failure to address chronic illnesses effectively in disasters causes short- and long-term adverse effects on chronic patients. Disaster response plans should be developed in a way that ensures that individuals with chronic illnesses have access to psychosocial support services, along with medication and medical devices. Public awareness should be raised about the difficulties that individuals with chronic illnesses may face in disaster situations.
