1. Introduction Osteoporosis is a medical condition characterized by increased bone fragility and a higher risk of fractures [1]. Athletes who engage in intense and prolonged physical training are particularly susceptible to developing osteoporosis [2]. However, the current diagnostic methods for osteopenia and osteoporosis are time-consuming, making it difficult to incorporate regular screening into athletes’ training regimens. Therefore, the development of an automated screening method is crucial.

Osteoporosis is primarily diagnosed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA); yet, DXA is significantly underutilized, causing osteoporosis, an underdiagnosed condition. We aimed to provide an opportunistic approach to screen for osteoporosis using artificial intelligence based on lumbar spine X-ray radiographs.
