Interaction of freestream turbulence and surface roughness in separation-induced transition

The current study uses direct numerical simulation to investigate the influence of parameterized distributed roughness on the separation-induced transition over a flat plate, under the influence of freestream turbulence and an adverse pressure gradient. Five cases, ranging from a smooth wall to a set of increasing roughness heights, were simulated to understand the interaction of the freestream “top-to-bottom” perturbation and the “bottom-to-top” perturbations by the roughness elements.
