Unrepresented songwriters deserve to be heard
I took a few years away from artist advocacy (after my husband died of cancer) but recently I feel called to get involved again and I’ve joined the board of the American Mechanical Licensing Collective. I’m not being paid to do this and I’m not on anyone’s payroll — I’m a single mom who makes a living as a recording artist and I hardly even have time to even write this — but I feel compelled to speak out because time is short and I don’t see anyone else doing it.

Songwriters, you have a choice
If you make music for a living, you might have been aware of the passage of the Music Modernization Act last year. The law sets up a non-profit entity called the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) to issue blanket licenses to streaming services and to collect and pay the owners of songs. If you are a self-published, DIY songwriter, that is you.

sumbuk New music at last! Ms. Keating's ability to create a 1 woman cello ensemble is a delight to hear, and even more so to see. I assure you, she does all this live; any chance to see her perform should be taken. 825 purchases in 5 days should tell you something. :-) If I remember correctly, this is the first of a planned 3 EP's she is working on.

Into The Trees, by Zoe Keating
Richard Weems I first learned of Keating on an album celebrating Tarry Riley's classic minimalist piece In C. Most notably, the tracks that used Riley as an inspiration, and Keating's Zinc (on this album) took my fancy completely. Cello is such a wonderful instrument--deep and rich and versatile, and such range. Keating's music is ambient, haunting and complex. Well, well WELL worth your time! Favorite track: Forest.
Circling, by Unwoman
1. We take another turn On piss-stained marble floors Outside the world burns The empire runs its course Yet here we are safe In long-abandoned halls We only have to wait Until the morning calls But will dawn come? Will we see it? Has the Earth stopped turning Or is the air just full of soot? There are flowering vines Winding their way around our hearts If we stand still Have we run out of time?
