SHERMAN — A new natural gas power plant is coming to North Texas as part of the state's bid to safeguard its residents against emergency blackouts. Officials at Rayburn Electric Cooperative broke ground on "Rayburn Electric Station II" on Tuesday at the electric utility's campus in Sherman. The plant is expected to provide 570 megawatts of dispatchable, natural gas power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas' north load zone, enough to power roughly 500,000 homes.
