Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced charges Thursday against five men accused of engaging in unlicensed contracting work in the Eaton Fire burn zone. The allegations: In a news conference, Hochman said unlicensed contractors may promise to rebuild destroyed homes faster and cheaper, but they can expose homeowners to faulty workmanship, liability for worker injuries and sometimes outright theft. “This increases the likelihood of fraud,” Hochman said.

Person killed by Metrolink train in Boyle Heights
A person was found dead after being struck by a Metrolink train near Mission Road in Boyle Heights on Thursday morning, officials said. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 9:30 a.m. and found a body near 742 Mission Road, by a westbound Metrolink train, according to Scott Johnson, communications director at Metrolink. An alert by LAFD said paramedics were dispatched to two locations before locating the victim’s body.
