The Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill is intended to provide powers to introduce minimum levels of service during strikes across certain key sectors. The government’s intention is to mitigate the disruption of strike action to the public and ensure their safety. If the Bill is passed, employers covered by the new rules will be able to issue a work notice to unions setting out who is required to work during a strike.

We look at the proposals in a Private Member’s Bill to give those going through fertility treatment paid leave for medical appointments and steps employers can take to support their workers through fertility treatment. Fertility challenges affect millions of employees in the UK. It is thought that as many as one in six couples experience fertility difficulties, but there is currently no statutory right to time off for fertility treatment in the UK.
