Avila, who struggled with literacy growing up, first envisioned the club after recommitting herself to reading in adulthood. Looking to make new friendships through a shared love of books, she posted flyers around town, hoping someone would show up.

Sitting down with Daisy Made’s founder Tracy Pendergast, it became clear that softness isn’t just an aesthetic - it’s foundational to her creative philosophy. Founded in 2020 during the pandemic, Daisy Made grew from a blog to a successful online and offline community of Long Beach creatives.

In the modern age of social media and constant curation, junk journaling has taken on a new level of significance for some - pushing back against the need for constant perfection and embracing the art of being messy. The art of “junk.” Fatima Cruz, a fourth year student at CSULB, started junk journaling in the summer - actually looking for a replacement for scrapbooking. Seeing the trend on social media, specifically Pinterest and TikTok, sparked her interest in exploring the hobby.
