American Red Cross Northwest Region’s Post
Sometimes, the best helping hand is actually a paw. Meet Mango and Mitzi. These beautiful doggos are part of the Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces animal visitation program. This week, they met with active duty service members and staff at Fairchild Air Force Base. Fairchild AFB was among the locations forced to evacuate residents and personnel at the height of the Spokane Complex Wildfires, one of which was burning just a few miles from the base.

Damage Assessment Advancements | News | American Red Cross
By: Abby Walker, Northwest Region When disaster strikes, teams of Red Cross workers can be found at the heart of the damage: helping families, sheltering victims, and assessing the damage done to people’s homes. When the scope of disaster spans hundreds of miles, or even states, it can be a daunting task. It is a task, however, that the Red Cross is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft to reimagine through artificial intelligence (AI).

Things to Be Thankful For: Gonzaga Edition
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and it is definitely one of my favorite holidays. Granted, it doesn’t have quite the nostalgic beauty of Christmas, the excitement of a birthday, or the flair of Halloween, but it’s wonderful in its own way. It is a holiday devoted not to receiving gifts or partying, but rather, it exists as a day of peace and thankfulness. It provides an excuse for families to come together, to eat massive amounts of food, and to reflect on the things closest to our hearts.
10 Things Only Tall Girls Can Relate To
The other day, I was checking out at Safeway when an older man walked up to me and said, “Gosh, you’re too tall to wear high heels, aren’t you? Are you an Amazon?” When I calmly replied, “No, I’m an Oregonian,” my roommate — standing at a petite 5’6” — was shocked at my reaction. “He was so rude,” she seethed as we grabbed our bags and left.

Meet Liza Calderon-Soto: RA and Social Justice Warrior
I met Liza Calderon-Soto on my first night at Gonzaga. As one of Welch’s RAs, she led me and the rest of the second floor down to the lobby, introduced herself, then looked around at all of us and said firmly, “I’m not your mom.” This statement has since proven to be correct. For the past month of school, she has been a resource, an event planner, and a friend to Welch’s residents.
Making New Friends: An Introvert's Quest
Social interaction exhausts me, I’ll be the first to admit it. So it was so surprise that, when orientation weekend came around and the idea of Just getting out there was being drilled into our heads, I resisted. I missed my family and my friends from high school, and all I wanted to do in those first few weeks was curl up in my bed, read, and listen to sad music. After a few days of solitude, however, I realized that I needed to make a change to my lifestyle.
Fall Reflection: Things I Wish I knew
To say the least, freshman year hit me like a brick. I prepared for it all summer. From the time I graduated from high school, my free time was spent browsing Pinterest boards for dorm decor, driving into the city for the occasional Target run, and counting down the days until orientation. I knew that the transition would be hard—I resist change on instinct, and this was going to be the biggest change of my life—but my worries about the move were dulled by my excitement to become a Zag.
