Cyclopropane ring, the smallest aliphatic ring, has become a popular structural motif in medicinal chemistry due to its unique physicochemical properties. Three carbons form a planar and rigid cycle with significant ring strain (27.5 kcal/mol),[1] and its C−C bonds share similarity with the C=C bonds in olefins.[2] These characteristics make the three-membered ring an excellent surrogate for a hydrophobic phenyl ring.
