I always thought Bob Graham was a little odd. As a political reporter for the Tampa Bay Times, I spent a lot of time with him when he was a U.S. senator and, for a hot second, a presidential candidate. I admired his intellect, his bipartisan spirit and his long record of accomplishments. As Florida’s governor from 1979 to 1987, he was a leader in environmental protection and improving the state’s schools. In the Senate, he was a smart legislator who often didn’t get the credit he deserved.
