My career, quickly, in chronological order:

• Graduated the Philip Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland-College Park in 2009.

• Worked at The Diamondback student newspaper from 2006 through 2009, serving as sports editor, summer editor-in-chief, sports columnist and senior staff writer.

• Interned at The Morning Call of Allentown, Pa., in Summer 2008.

• Worked at The Des Moines Register as a sports copy editor for 2010 and part of 2011.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked on the sports copy desk at The Des Moines Register right out of college.

How is social media changing news?

It's pushing us to change the way we approach breaking news. Stories need to go deeper. Headlines need to draw more interest.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Kermit the Frog.
