The outfielder also logged his first multi-hit game since Aug. 26 -- Varsho had gone just 3-for-28 (.107) in eight contests prior to Tuesday.
Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Heating up
Bazzana went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Orioles. Bazzana launched a three-run shot in the second inning as the Guardians raced to a 6-0 lead after three innings. The rookie has hit safely in four consecutive games, going 7-for-14 with two doubles, two homers and eight RBI during that run. Bazzana's bat is showing life once again after a languid August (.566 OPS).
Guardians' Angel Martinez: Makes fourth straight start
Martinez started in right field and went 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Baltimore. Martinez tripled and scored in the second inning and then singled and scored in the seventh. He made a fourth consecutive start, as Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt navigates around an injury to Chase DeLauter (wrist), who has missed the last four contests. Martinez has rebounded nicely from a three-month slumber that saw him slash .193/.228/.360 over 43 games between May and July.

Tawa started in right field and went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a 5-3 extra-innings win over the Royals. Tawa was originally slotted in at first base but moved to right field after Corbin Carroll (back) was scratched. He smacked a solo home run in the ninth inning and knocked in another run in the 10th before the Diamondbacks won it in the 11th.
Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Makes another rehab appearance
Nelson (elbow) struck out two and hit a batter over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. Nelson threw 11 pitches (eight strikes) in his second rehab appearance and has struck out four over two scoreless and hitless innings. The one-time starter will operate as a reliever once he's activated from the injured list.
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Knocks in winning run
Gurriel entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in a 5-3 extra-innings win over Kansas City. After grounding out as a pinch hitter, Gurriel stayed in the game at designated hitter, replacing Lars Nootbaar. Gurriel eventually knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI-triple in the top of the 11th inning.

Shelton and Alcaraz played the latest match in US Open history, with Shelton winning with an ace at 3:33 a.m. ET On a day filled with incredible tennis, Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz saved the best for last, as the No. 8 seed Shelton outlasted the No. 2 seed Alcaraz in a five-set thriller (6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6) that became the latest US Open match in history, finishing at 3:33 a.m. ET with Shelton picking up the biggest win of his young career.
Athletics' Jack Perkins: Handed 11th loss
Perkins (3-11) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks over five-plus innings in a 4-2 defeat against Toronto. He struck out three. The right-hander was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday but was quickly recalled and ended up retaining his rotation spot due to J.T. Ginn's (elbow) move to the injured list.
