In the program’s first season in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns had a successful regular season that resulted in an 11-1 record. That only loss came against the Georgia Bulldogs. The SEC championship game was an opportunity for the Longhorns to bounce back and even up the series, they fell flat. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are the 2024 SEC champions.

In 2023, the Georgia Bulldogs took on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship. Though the Dawgs were the favorite, Alabama managed to win. However, the biggest surprise of the day may have come before the game, when Pat McAfee “called the Dawgs” on ESPN’s “College GameDay” but switched it up at the last second and picked the Crimson Tide to win. This year, Georgia returns to the conference title game, but with a new opponent, the Texas Longhorns in the program’s first season in the SEC.

For a decade, the four-team College Football Playoff was the center of a very contentious debate among fans of the sport. While many were upset that the same teams were being included, others were frustrated over the teams ranked No. 5 and No. 6, which were the first teams left out. Oftentimes, there was overlap between those two concerns. The Alabama Crimson Tide failed to reach the College Football Playoffs only twice with the four-team format.
